Family against affair, youth slits girl’s throat

ANGUL: A 14-year-old girl was murdered by a youth at her home in the district on Monday morning as her family members were allegedly against their relationship. Police said Ranjan Behera, a driver (24) by profession, was in love with the girl, a Class VIII student at a private school in Angul. Local police station IIC Satyabrat Rout said Behera was in a relationship with the girl.
When her family members came to know about it, they took away her mobile phone and changed the number so that the two could not talk to each other. This infuriated Behera. On Monday morning, when her father was away at work, he came to the house and found the girl sitting in her room. He slit her throat with a sharp object, killing her on the spot.
Family member took her to Angul district hospital where she was declared brought dead. “We went to the spot upon hearing about the incident. We have launched an investigation but the accused is on the run. We hope to nab him soon,” the IIC said.
